Overview

When professional free surfer Torren Martyn and his partner Aiyana Powell borrowed the 35 foot sailing boat ‘Calypte’ and departed from the east coast of Thailand in early 2022, they had a combined sailing experience of only a few days. The one requirement of their charter was to eventually deliver the boat to Eastern Indonesia. Planning to learn on the go, the pair embarked onto the South China Sea, out into the Indian Ocean on a year-long expedition in search of waves. But the idyllic journey had its challenges – sleepless nights, rolling storms, leaky hulls and claustrophobically confined space. Of course, the sweetest adventures take the hardest work.

Why See This Film

Calypte is guaranteed to spark your own intrepid spirit and have you googling second-hand sailboat listings as the credits roll. Your night out at the movies also comes with a feelgood bonus – proceeds from ticket sales are being donated to SurfAid, a charitable organisation whose core mission is to improve health, wellbeing and resilience of remote communities in Indonesia.
