Fifteen to twenty years before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), young Furiosa (played by Anya Taylor-Joy as an adult and Alyla Browne as a child) lives in the Green Place of Many Mothers, a lush and abundant utopia. One day, she strays a little too far from home and is snatched away by a Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth, Thor). Furiosa remains prisoner to Dementus for years as he sweeps the wasteland and finally comes across the Citadel, presided over by The Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme, Offspring). As the two Tyrants wage war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she plans her escape and journey home.
World Premiere
George Miller’s Mad Max films are high-octane, ear-splitting, exhilarating and completely over-the-top action masterworks that demand to be seen in the theatre with thunderous sound. No expenses have been spared here – with a budget of AU$343 million, it’s the most expensive Australian film ever made. Anya Taylor-Joy delivers a formidable performance as Furiosa and Chris Hemsworth relishes this rare opportunity to play a pompous villain after years as Marvel hero Thor. Many crew members who won Academy Awards for their work on Mad Max: Fury Road are back for this film, including editor Margaret Sixel, costume designer Jenny Beavan, production designer Colin Gibson, sound mixer Ben Osmo and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt.
