Overview

Mei is just your average overachieving 13-year-old – she plays flute in the school band, she helps her parents tend to the family temple, and she and her four besties are ride-or-die fans of 4*Town, the dreamiest boy band in the whole world. Until one morning, Mei wakes up and a giant red panda stares back at her from the bathroom mirror. Embarrassing! Her mum, Ming, explains that it’s an ‘inconvenient’ power that all the women in their family have inherited from their ancestor Sun Yee, and that the transformation happens as a response to strong emotions. How can Mei go on with normal high school life? But more importantly, how will Mei and her friends convince their parents to let them go to the 4*Town concert?

Why You Should See This Film

The most adorable allegory about adolescence and all the humiliating and awkward bodily changes that come with it, Turning Red is heartwarming, humorous and fizzing with squealing tween energy. Dynamic brother-sister duo Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell wrote the pitch-perfect pop songs for 4*Town, and director Domee Shi was the first woman to solo-direct a Pixar feature film. This is your first chance to watch Turning Red on the big screen since it missed out on a theatrical release during the pandemic.

Turning Red screens with the Pixar animated short film Kitbull.
