Overview

From legendary director Stanley Donen (Singin’ in the Rain, Funny Face) comes a time-shifting, side-splitting examination of fractured married life in the South of France. This film follows Mark and Joanna Wallace (Albert Finney and Audrey Hepburn) and their tumultuous 12-year relationship, from courtship and marriage to parenthood and infidelity. Filmed on location in the sun-drenched surrounds of Italy and France, Two for the Road sees Finney and Hepburn drive, fly and hitchhike around Europe as they engage in fleeting affairs with beautiful strangers and attempt to rekindle their once-whirlwind romance. Can their love survive the temptations and frustrations they meet along the road?

Why You Should See This Film

It’s near impossible to look past the seasoned pedigree of Stanley Donen, who also directed the classic Golden Era films On the Town, Charade, The Pajama Game and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. With its experimental non-linear structure and frank depiction of marital strife, Two for the Road is that rare Hollywood romance between exceptionally beautiful people that also manages to be an honest story about recognisable human beings. Who knew? All that plus a theme song written by Henry Mancini.
